Pumas UNAM Sign Tomas Koubek and Luke Shaw
Pumas UNAM's Scout went on another European tour yesterday and brought back with him Czech Republic International goalkeeper Tomas Koubek (Pictured left) from Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais for a rumoured £2.5-million! Which is a bargain for the 25-year-old Czech 'keeper. He comes with a wealth of experience and is at the right age for a goalkeeper, having still got plenty of years ahead of him to continue to improve. It's not easy to find a good goalkeeper for a cheap price in this market with so many clubs going in for the same player.
The 25-year-old shot stopper who's spell in France was cut short following his move to Mexico and entering one of the toughest Division in the New World Order, the gaffer had his say on the arrival of the guy between the sticks, "I felt we needed to bring in a new Goalkeeper and I've known of Koubek's abilities for some time now and I knew he was the guy I wanted to bring to Pumas UNAM, so I reached out to his agent and got what was needed to be done and spoke with the player and explained the long term aspirations of where I see this club and what we are looking to achieve and he bought into it, which is great! He's a top professional and wants to come here to help improve the team and it's chances of doing something this season. It wasn't tough to negotiate it was a quick deal and we knew we had to act before any of teams snapped him up and with Olympiacos also interested we knew we would have to ensure that we got things done properly and fairly sharpish!"
So overall it appears that the English manager is pleased with the addition of Tomas Koubek and rightfully so, he's had a great start his young career as a Goalkeeper and it'll be interesting to see where his career goes from here and in which direction it goes!
That wasn't the only piece of business completed by the Mexican side Pumas UNAM yesterday, as they also announce the season long loan signing of English left-back Luke Shaw (Pictured right) from Manchester United. The 23-year-old signed on the dotted line and will ply his trade in Mexico for the next season at least, the deal suited both parties as he wouldn't have got much playing time at United where as now he will be playing 90-minutes a week for the first time in a long time, after injuries have thwarted his opportunities with the Red Devils in his time with them thus far.
Injuries aside the former Southampton man could have been the next biggest defender following his pricey switch to Manchester United, however its not really gone his way and he's seen himself slowly slip down the pecking order and so it was said that he approached the new United gaffer and requested a loan move away to get some game time, and then perhaps he could impress and return to the club and make the impact many expected of him back when he first arrived.
Justice isn't said to be worried that he won't put in 100% as it's only a loan deal and insists quite the opposite; he was quoted in saying the following! " I'm delighted to have him here, sure its only for a season for now and we will use him as much as possible during that period. He comes here with the expectation to play 90 minutes a week, every week, and of course we'd love that and that is what we are looking for him to do and he wants to use this time to try and impress his parent club and so be it if he does, as long as he puts in 110% every game he plays I'll be more than happy and I hope we can help him to achieve his full potential."
Some strong words for Nick Justice on both additions to the club, with more players expected to arrive over the next couple of weeks, it could still be a very busy time ahead for Pumas UNAM ahead of their league campaign kicking off this Sunday.
More to come soon...
