Pumas UNAM - The Update

It's been a busy period at the Mexican side since the first game of the season when we last really properly heard from the English manager crafting his trade out in the heat of Mexico. It's been a relatively steady start to life for Justice, 23, who is arguably one of the youngest managers currently competing in the New World Order, not only that but it was announced a couple of weeks ago that Justice was indeed lined up and did in fact replace the unsteady League CEO Rob Harris, who stepped down from his duties and now the young Brit will have to balance life between managing his club and the league itself!

It hasn't really had any effect on results so far for Pumas UNAM, as they currently sit in thirteenth spot, with seven points from their first seven games, not the best but not the worst start from the team who were tipped to be one of the four to drop down this season. In those seven league games they've recorded one win, four draws and two defeats against some strong opposition thus far.

They did crash out of the cup on Tuesday night at the hands of Spanish giants Barcelona, 4-0, in a game where the Pumas UNAM boss fielded a very young side and one many would consider to be a second string side. It's clear to see that Justice's full attention is on the league and insuring the clubs future remains in Division Two this season.

You can also see from the way in which the team has been built that he is building for bigger and better things at the club and a sustainable future, like he has in several previous managerial roles. This was shown from the off when he invested a large percentage of his budget into Bayer Laverkusen midfielder Benji Henrichs. They have since added a number of players, signing a total of eighteen players! A complete revamp was promised when Nick Justice took charge, and a revamp it has been.

We can see some promising signs that the club is moving in a direction that can only be good for the club. It was shown recently when youth prospect Oriel Busquets saw his rating increase and at only 18-years-old, it's surely a sign of great things to come for the young Spanish midfielder. Not only that but seeing some exciting younger European experienced players arrive has really sparked interest in the Mexican side worldwide! Not just for their badge and kits being so popular in FIFA 18!

We managed to catch up with the main man himself Nick Justice earlier today and he had this to say on his time in Mexico and NWO thus far, "It's been a great journey so far, all be it it's only been just over a handful of games I've been in charge of competitively, I genuinely feel as though we're moving in the right direction and that long term I can build this side into the team i wish it to be.

Don't get me wrong, I've got a mountain still to climb to ensure safety in division two this season and then try and push on from season two and so forth! We will see changes at the team as we train our players harder and smarter, week on week, but it's a fun adventure and I am for sure enjoying the hot weather out here and I do intend on sticking around for some time and creating a legacy at this club.

We've got seven points, from seven games...Is that ideal? Well, no of course not, we'd love to have more however we know we're in a very tough division and I said when I first arrived how tough it was going to be and how the fans will need to be patient and so far they've been great with me and i appreciate it and it's made the transition much easier. It's never easy as a English coach to go abroad but it's worked well and my backroom staff have been superb!

It's a long journey, but it'll be a fun one, in which I hope you'll all join me in!"

Some strong words from Justice, in what looks likely to be exciting times ahead for Pumas UNAM...till next time!
